Interior Design for a Luxury Garment store

When we were tasked with designing a retail store for women’s traditional Indian apparel, an opportunity was created to create a space which is a contemporary take on the opulence of traditional Indian women’s wear. The use of golden accents over an elegant, muted, yet richly textured palette of finishes, puts emphasis on the vibrant products displayed.

Key features

Emphasizing the product- the scheme of finishes and colours allows for the otherwise  vibrant product display to be highlighted.

Creating luxury rooted in traditional Indian aesthetics- the elegant earthy colour palette accentuated with golden lines provides for a contemporary and luxurious look and feel. The arches take inspiration from traditional Indian architecture and tell the story of inter-twining of Indian art and architecture.

Lighting- Carefully designed focus lighting and task lighting emphasizes and celebrates the product, and provides for a well-lit and glare free lighting ambience.

Strategic use of visual merchandising for thermal control- the store facing is south, with direct sun ingress into the space, which leads to requirement of strong cooling. The positioning of visual merchandise with a backdrop significantly reduces the exposure to direct sunlight, thus reducing the air-conditioning requirement as well as creating an attractive interface for window shoppers.

The project demonstrates use of passive measures for a more comfortable environment, and celebrating the contemporary take on traditional Indian clothing and architecture.
